Yep, that's it!
I used to be intrigued by the business meetings and was interested in the political process to a great degree but for some years now it hasn't been about any of that for me. My my focus is three fold: worship, the Word, and more than anything, relationships. (I have worship and the Word every single day, but don't have my pastor friends as accessible as they are at district council so that is the sweet spot for me that is unique to the event.) Oh, I go to all the business meetings, don't get me wrong. And yes, I vote. But honestly while I'm doing that I'm usually more concerned with noticing the shoes my friend is wearing while she votes, or with taking note of the book the pastor next to me is reading in between picking up ballots and jotting down their vote. (You get some good book recommendations during this time...lol) Seriously, what I receive from this week more than anything is the encouragement from being with those who are traveling the same road.
We leave this morning for Orlando for Council and will be gone this week but never fear, our boys are holding down the fort at home along with our dogs and everything will be well taken care of.
I'm looking forward to a few uninterrupted late nights after meetings alone with my husband in our hotel room. Savanna always goes to bed early as she's very conscientious with her sleep and grades. However with our other two being young adults our house is like Grand Central Station 24/7, which is a challenge. It's nothing for me to hear clothes being washed, dinner being heated up, or friends coming over at 2 am. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I will suddenly smell a hamburger frying or hear Halo on the TV. Sometimes they knock on our bedroom door at 2 am, and act like it's perfectly normal and say, "hey, can I talk to you for a sec?" No, I'm not kidding. [sigh] This is what it's like to have 19 and 20 year old "kids", But I can't complain. They are wonderful boys who love the Lord and a lot of times they want to come in and talk to us about life issues that we are just pleased as punch to talk to them and honored that they talk with us at that level. With that said...time in the hotel room, late night alone with the man...that's another reason I go to District Council, but I'll just leave it at that...and go back to packing my oil and candles.
