What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Share my joy

Saturday as we were out Christmas shopping, we had a few gift certificates with us that we have not used yet from, "Pastor Appreciation". These were to get our family some special things for our house and we were waiting for the right moment. Well, we used two of them to get things for our home that I'm really excited about and I thought I'd share it here with you...both of them were on sale to a great degree (yeah!) and things we've wanted for a long time.

First, we got a new coffee maker. Most everyone knows I love coffee so much that my kitchen is decorated in the theme of coffee and tea. One of the main things I bring back with me from Africa are bags of coffee beans! (Kenya is a major producer of coffee...and some of the best!) And of course we have constant church gatherings at our house and my coffee pot gets a total workout just from that not to mention day to day use. Well, as most everyone knows, Linens and Things is going out of business. That makes me sad because it's one of my favorite places. The only good news out of this is that I got some new things there last night at such a low price it's insane. One of them was this brand new Cuisinart 12-cup coffee grinder & brewer. Not only does it grind the beans and brew at the same time but it is fully programmable! I am so excited, it's ridiculous! Understand that as much of a coffee lover as I am I have never had this kind of coffee maker that could be programmed. Tomorrow morning is going to be an exciting time for me to wake up on Sunday morning while it's still dark outside and as I'm laying in bed, smell my coffee waiting for me in the kitchen! Yay! Let me also say that the coffee really does taste different with this kind of maker. I am surprised at the difference, actually. They attribute part of this reason to the special water filter that is in it, as well as the grind of the beans to medium. In addition to this coffee maker I also got some table cloths, napkins and napkin rings at a steal. Everybody knows too that I love china and setting the table in many different ways...and this gives me even more options than I have now. I'm so excited!

The second thing we got with another of our pastor appreciation gift certificates is this outdoor fireplace from Home Depot. If you've been to my house you know I have a great patio in my backyard and we hang out there a lot or entertain back there. This will be perfect, especially in time for my Christmas Open House tomorrow night with our leadership. I have always wanted a fireplace...and we do not have one indoors nor would we have occasion to use it much out of the year in Florida to justify it taking up the space in our house, however having it on the back patio where we have plenty of room and utilizing it about 3 months out of the year will be just perfecto!

Thanks for sharing my joy over my two new things and...any of you who come over regularly to my home will get to enjoy them too. :-) (Yes, you Michele!) lol

Some people will never understand this...

And that's okay. Just let us be as we lavish love upon the fur-kids of the world. It doesn't mean we don't care about people. We do care. In fact most of the people I know who are great pet lovers are also the greatest philanthropists. If you're not a dog lover, you might not understand the overwhelming intensity that many of us felt about Tank's reunion this past week. You might think we've lost our marbles. That's okay, we think you've lost your heart. ;)  Before I go on with this post, let me say that we were delighted that CBS 10 posted the video and article about Tank and his Celebration Church reunion yesterday. Click here to watch it. (But then come back!) If you haven't realized it, there is a revolution in America about dogs. Dogs have always been loved and known as the most loyal companions ~ "man's best friend". But things have gone way beyond this. Dogs aren't just dogs or friends anymore. They are family me...

Sisterhood Rises Up To Change Lives Forever

God is in the business of preserving families. It is His heart. It's my heart too. And, I'll unabashedly say here that I believe it should be everyone's heart. Everyone likes good news and I've got some for you today. If you are in doubt that God still speaks today and that He uses people to accomplish His work, I pray this will speak to you. Last night I was sitting in service at Celebration Church where we are pastors, and my husband was preaching. His message was about what we want to be remembered for in life, and he made the statement that we can't change our past but we can change the future.  In that moment, God spoke to me. He began to give me my next post for Lost Daughters, where I'm also a blogger. To be honest it's more than just another place where I blog. It's a sisterhood. A lifeline. A place that has come to mean a great deal to me, because of the amazing women who are there. During the service I basically had this entire post...
